Repairing Bay Window Movement
Bay windows have been a feature of domestic street housing since the Victorian era, providing a window space projecting outward from the main elevational wall. It is not uncommon for these bays to develop defects requiring repair.
Common issues encountered include cracking, leaning, dropping of lintels and arches and masonry pulling away from the building – the causation for which can often be attributed, at least in part, to shallower foundations when compared with those of the main building (thus allowing the possibility of differential settlement), a lack of effective lateral restraining, or movement within the masonry elements.
